This week, our Luvva Cover feature is intriguing! In 1975, a famous song with a beautiful melody and an even better lyric was released. Over the years, the impact of those lyrics has lessened but a French chanteuse, Marianne Dissard who is much in the style of Jacques Brel, brings them to life again and restores the impact of those lyrics. It's like hearing the song for the first time again - give it a listen!

The song by Mick Flannery is a very moving one and has been used in a campaign to support victims of domestic violence - particularly during this pandemic. We will give out details of how to donate to support victims in Ireland, the USA and the UK.
In 2001, Gillian Welch released her song Ruination Day Part 2 which was about 3 momentous events in American history which all occurred on April 14th. They were the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the Titanic disaster and the Black Sunday dust storm of 1935. Lauren O'Connell has just released a brilliant cover version of the song which will be on her forthcoming album but, in the meantime, you can hear it as our Luvva Cover feature in our show.

Our Luvva Cover feature, this week, has quite a story behind it! When The Clash were due to play in Paris in 1981, they met an Algerian musician (Rachid Taha officiel) who handed them a tape of demos of his (punk) band's songs. He heard nothing back from them so he assumed that they hadn't played the tape. The following year, they released one of their best known songs. In an interview with The Guardian some time later, he told this story, smiled at the journalist, and said, "Maybe they did listen to my tape." He later made a brilliant cover version of the track - see what you think!

To sign off, Mark and I decided to each pick our favourite ten tracks from the (nearly) five thousand that we have played.

Our Luvva Cover was amazing! A traditional song telling of a life gone wrong in New Orleans was given new life in 1964 by The Animals. Two months ago Corvyx, a musician mostly known by his Youtube videos, took the song and completely transformed it. You will be astounded with the way he has breathed new life into it once more! Our Luvva Cover features one of fewer than 40 singles EVER to have sold more than 10 million copies. It was by soul / disco legend George McCrae. His most famous song has been totally transformed by Japanese ambient master Emerson Kitamura and features on a new Balearic collection - a fabulous treatment of a classic song!
And we paid our small tribute to Stephen Hillenburg, creator of SpongeBob, who passed at the end of November and whose programmes we both love.

Essex singer / producer D-Saro has released ‘Fight Like Micky’ featuring Micky himself. The song aims to encourage people to donate their life-saving stem cells.
